Target Fund Managers bolsters team with trio of appointments

31 October 2018

Target Fund Managers, the external manager to Target Healthcare REIT (THRL), the UK listed specialist investor in purpose-built care homes, is pleased to announce three appointments to support it in its strategy to manage and grow THRL.

Maria Gaurino joins as Healthcare Director and brings over 18 years of care home management and senior consultancy experience from across the UK. She has an in-depth knowledge of the UK care home sector and recognises the importance of quality real estate that provides appropriate ensuite wet room facilities. She has worked extensively in delivering strategic objectives and effective performance across all elements of care home operations across the UK including clinical excellence, human resource development and financial measures, focused on quality and effective person-centred care.

Most recently, Maria has been instrumental in assisting small to medium size care home operators in delivering safe care and optimum management performance. At Target Fund Managers, Maria will primarily be responsible for undertaking thorough healthcare property analysis and reporting. This covers both future, and existing, Group care homes and the wider market, fully supporting Target’s ethos of being an engaged landlord.

Mark Langford joins as Finance Manager from Clydesdale Bank, where he spent six years as Finance Manager, Planning and Forecasting, responsible for reviewing and improving operational performance and longer-term commercial strategy, as well as managing complex regulatory and statutory requirements across the bank. He brings over 15 years of financial planning, reporting, forecasting and accounting experience, having previously held senior roles at Shell UK and Vertex Data Science.

Mark will work with Finance Director Gordon Bland and his team on the financial planning and analysis, management accounting, stakeholder reporting and statutory financial reporting functions, whilst supporting senior management with a number of ongoing commercial and strategic projects across both the business and client funds.

Emma Fernandes joins as Senior Marketing Manager and will work alongside the Leadership Team, overseeing all aspects of the marketing and communications programme, including content generation, newsflow and research, across both traditional and digital platforms. Emma joins from Prudential, where as Key Account Marketing Manager she was heavily involved in the implementation of marketing and digital strategies, whilst also driving one-off external campaigns. Emma has over 18 years of marketing and communications experience, having previously worked at Lloyds, Standard Life Investments and RBS.

Kenneth MacKenzie, Managing Partner of Target Fund Managers commented:

“Understanding and successfully navigating the UK care home sector requires a specific skill set. Maria has built a track record of working alongside various stakeholders, with a consistent focus on resident care that recognises the fundamental importance of ensuite wet rooms ensuring dignified care for residents, whilst supporting their wellbeing. This complements our ethos at Target, which is to fully commit to care whilst delivering superior returns. Mark’s appointment will broaden the strength of the finance team. He will play an important role as we continue to mature as a business, and grow our funds under management. Emma meanwhile has worked at some of the UK’s leading institutions and we look forward to her leveraging this experience to drive forward our marketing and communications function.”

"“Maria, Mark and Emma are all highly qualified and bring with them a wealth of experience in their respective fields. We look forward to them supporting us in building on a successful 2018 during which THRL has grown its portfolio of homes from 50 to 58. "
